Yesterday was going to be a workday but I had an urgent call to take my daughter-in-law and baby to emergency, baby's arm had popped out again at elbow.  Poor little love was so brave and patient, but most of all her 4 year old brother was the most patient and best behaved child a grandmother could want.  I am amazed at how little there is in emergency at our local hospital for children to do.  They have a set of childrens table & chairs (right in front of the vending machines) but that is all.
When someone rushes to emergency (with extra children in tow) they do not stop and think "I need to pack toys, books etc for the kids".  The TVs were all on morning talk shows, at least one could have been on 22 or 23 for them to watch.
It was 2 hours before baby was even taken in and then another hour before we saw Mum and babe again.  This is a reasonably short visit and I am not complaining about the time, but for a 4 year old it must seem an eternity.  Never did he run around, whine  or complain, and he was justly rewarded after the event.  People commented on his great behaviour. and I was very proud and told him so.  I did let him play "Angry Birds" on my mobile for a short time (Concentration span isn't very long), also he did receive a packet of chips from the vending machine.
Is there anyway we can upgrade our emergency waiting areas so as to accommodate all the family when they are under stress and may need to wait for a lengthy time.
Please let me know what you all think?
And Baby, well she is ok again, was starting to move her arm just before being called in by the nurse.  Such a cutie.
